Pillars of the NFL: Art Donovan

In Patrick McCaskey's Pillars of the NFL: Coaches Who Have Won Three or More Championships he covers the ten greatest NFL coaches of all-time.  Among the pillars is Weeb Ewbank who coached the Baltimore Colts and New York Jets to championships.  In Pillars, we describe some of the key players  for these great coaches and we'd  thought we'd reproduce some of that for our posts.

Art "Bulldog" Donovan was a Hall of Fame tackle who was already on the Colts when Ewbank got his start.  The coach considered Donovan the best tackle in the league when he was at his peak playing on the left side.  Donovan got a late start in professional football because of his military service during World War II.  Donovan who played smart and tough on the field, was also known for his expansive sense of humor. Donovan played with Gino Marchetti,  Don Joyce, and “Big Daddy” Lipscomb, to make  the Colts one of the best defensive lines in football.

Pillars of the NFL is the only book that includes the complete history of the NFL top ten coaches.  Everyone who loves NFL history will enjoy this great book.
