Ken Burns Baseball Fans Will Love Sporting Chance Press Books

Ken Burns Baseball is a moving documentary series that grabbed America's attention. It's recent expansion and replay on Public Television stations welcomed us into the 2011 Major League Baseball season. As a publisher, I am aware of how baseball is not just a popular topic for programs like Burns, but it is also a very popular book genre and will likely continue to be one a hundred years from now regardless of the form our books take. Burns films series has a companion book that I own and love.

Sporting Chance Press has published two baseball books that Ken Burns Baseball fans would love: The 10 Commandments of Baseball: An Affectionate Look at Joe McCarthy's Principles for Success in Baseball (and Life) is the first.. Public Bonehead, Private Hero: The Real Legacy of Baseball's Fred Mekle is the second.

In The 10 Commandments of Baseball, author J.D. Thorne discusses his personal involvement in and affection for baseball. Then he looks at Joe McCarthy, the legendary Cubs-Yankee-Red Sox manager who continues to hold the highest winning percentage in baseball. The third component of this highly entertaining book is a look at the historical characters who illustrate McCarthy's principles. Short and sweet, The 10 Commandments include a selection of vintage baseball photographs from the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It has been lovingly called a perfect "airplane" book that http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif"you won't want to leave on the plane." It's a keeper.

Public Bonehead, Private Hero is another historic baseball book. In Public Bonehead, the author, Mike Cameron, a life-long baseball fan sets out to show baseball readers that not only was Fred Merkle a likeable, flesh and blood character, he was a scapegoat who was caught in the crossfire of an newly enforced rule and the muckraking press. Cameron sets the stage for the dramatic 1908 season and Merkle Game and it's aftermath.

Traditionally, baseball fans are book readers. The 10 Commandments of Baseball and Public Bonehead, Private Hero are written by fans, for fans. Both books are available on www.sportingchancepress.com.
